tonight`s game – roar v mariners at mariners

Filed under: Football, Life in Japan — notyalcsdrawkcab @ 11:42 pm

the game just had to be tonight, didn`t it?  instead of watching the game on my middling internet stream with a cold beer (which is really stupid considering how cold it is over here), i will be freezing on a mountainside holding a flaming big torch with another 5000 guys.  we are purifying the mountain apparently.  through our coldness and drunkeness.

its called the ottou matsuri – basically its a fire festival in the town where i live.  depending on how crazy the guys i am going with are, i could be soaking in the ocean before preparing for the festival.  its 5 degrees or something today.

its something i wouldn`t see at home, and  i wouldn`t miss it for the world, not even a cool game like tonights.

i am thinking its gonna be a roar win, with 3 – 5 goals in it.  is the roar`s newly found composure in front of goal and on the ball real or a mirage that will disappear at the first sign of trouble?  maybe we`ll find out tonight.  hmmm, expecting zullo and minniecon to take on the ccm`s fullbacks.  and get past them.  they did last time.  if ccm can pull off a win, or a draw, it`ll probably be because of that man simon.

the roar`s biggest risk is the temptation to tinker with what has been working and try to fit miller back into the starting lineup.  its gotta be mitch nichols through the centre of the park.  tidily moving the ball in the middle third, supporting van dijk in the final third.

i never get crushed by defeats any more.  if that is what is coming, so be it.  i figure, in football, and in life, you get the result you deserve.

is this roar champions material?  we`ll see over the next couple of weeks.

  1. hope you enjoyed the fire festival clayton, you could have had one back home, with bushfires apparently raging not far from gosford….but it’s the complete opposite down here, with mid 40s forecast for the w-end.

avg game really, terrible pitch, mariners bossed the first half, didnt threaten enough, went to sleep at a set piece, ogrady was clumsy in the box for the second, tiatto should have seen red earlier then he did, nut-case, poor crowd, good result for the roar, missing tiatto and mccloughan (maybe) next week.

  3. lived to tell the tale … went with my boss, and we took his friend`s kids … so we were t the back away from the mosh pit / fight club at the front. was one of those nights i don`t think you forget – sometimes i forget i am overseas, but not last night.

am trying to tell myself that we aren`t past the mariners yet. nice start though.

lang is a great place to watch footy, much nicer than the multipurpose where they are playing aus v japan …
